Hillside is a doctrinally conservative church. We participate in cooperative giving to
the Southern Baptist Convention, the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention and the
Southern Baptist of the Permian Basin Association. A more concise listing of many
of our beliefs is found in the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. Some of the most
important beliefs we hold follow: We believe in a single truth that is revealed in the
Bible. We consider the Bible to be without error, to have full authority and inspiration
and to have been given to man as the revelation of God's redemptive work through
Jesus Christ. We believe that only God changes the heart and brings salvation. We
believe in discipleship and growth through spiritual accountability.
Hillside does not fit a traditional mold. Worship times are designed to challenge
people to action, to convict of sinfulness and wrongdoing and to be an open gateway
for God's Spirit to move among us. A full band plays each week, the pastor preaches
out of the Bible and the rest is left to God.
We do not forbid the speaking in tongues if it is performed in a biblical and orderly
way...as the Bible prescribes. Nor do we require anyone to believe as we do in order
to attend a worship time. Worship is open to the community with the goal of seeing
people come to know Jesus Christ. We consider the time we spend together to be
an opportunity to worship collectively, not an obligation. However, the Bible does
command believers to assemble in worship ... this we preach.
All ethnicities, faiths and skeptics are welcome to attend. We want you to know
Jesus and to enjoy an atmosphere where God can work in your life. Our prayer is
that the lives we live would testify to the power of God.
